David Hogge joined the staff of the Prince of Wales School in April 1956. He graduated from Natal University in 1955 with an Honours degree in English. In August 1956 he returned to South Africa to be married, and he and his wife Rosie then came to live at the school for the next 12 years.

For several years he was Assistant Housemaster for Rhodes, becoming Housemaster at the beginning of the third term of 1961. In 1962 he spent a term as Acting Housemaster for Junior House, and was then made Housemaster for Hawke House in 1963, a position he held until the end of the second term of 1966.

After leaving the staff of the school in July 1968, he then took up a teaching position at St. Andrew's College at Grahamstown in the Cape Province of South Africa.
