   Obituary - Jim Dow

Jim Dow

House: Clive
Years: 1951-1954

On the 4th March 2010, Webmaster received an e-mail from Allan Morriss:

Hi Steve,

I am the bearer of sad news.

Jim Dow (Clive 1951-1954) passed away yesterday as a result of cancer.

His wife Lorna has asked me to pass on the news to the OC as many of his friends are members. Whilst I have not attempted to write an obituary I know his largesse and sense of humour will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

If you could add something appropriate in the next update of the OC news it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Allan Morriss
(Rhodes 1950-1954)

The following was Jim's entry in the Alumni section of this web site prior to his death:

Jim Dow

Nickname: Haggis
House: Clive
Years: 1951-1954

Since leaving Princo in Dec 1954, I have been a newspaper journalist - 18 months on the Tanganyika Standard, 4 years on the East African Standard, then on UK papers, including the Cambridge Evening News, with 23 years at The Scotsman, 9 as Business Editor.

I now have my own public relations and freelance journalism company in Edinburgh.

My latest venture, with three other journalists, is the first newspaper of its kind in the UK. We are building up an impressive database of what is happening in the commercial property world in Scotland. Please take a look at www.compropscotland.com

I have written a book on the Scottish Islands which has been published. Also written a book on life in East Africa as a schoolboy and journalist - Click here for a brilliant chapter on life at Princo - and I'm now looking for a publisher.
