E-mail of 16th June 2008 from David Atkinson (Staff 1961-1969)
On Friday, June 13th, my wife and I attended the funeral of Nigel Brown. We said goodbyes to a fine family man and a good
friend. Our love and sympathy go to Sylvia, Sophie and her family.
Nigel was one of the most modest men I knew. He didn't talk about himself unless you teased it out of him and then what
little he offered was worth listening to. He was passionate about his family, Kenya, teaching and the theatre. We saw
some great productions at the Prince of Wales School When he returned as a master, and I persuaded him to play rugby
for the Old Cambrians against the school. He broke his wrist early in the game. Sylvia wasn't very pleased, but forgave me.
We kept in touch over the years and in the last three years saw each other quite a lot. He was always cheerful and had a
very positive attitude to life and never complained no matter what it threw at him.

During my time as a master at the school, I was Assistant Housemaster and then Housemaster of Clive House. I was Head of
English and General Studies.
I shall make what looks as if it might be an excessively lengthy entry into the 'school memories' section in due course.
I have been a schoolmaster for over forty years and live just south of Oxford. Married to Sylvia for almost as long. We had
two daughters, the younger of whom , who was Downs' Syndrome, died ten years ago, while the elder is married and lives in
Rugby. Sylvia and I live in Abingdon, just south of Oxford.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone who was at the school during my two spells there.
Ex-pupils NB: please don't address me as 'sir' or even 'Mr Brown'!
